Working to Improve Nutrition and Physical Environments
In January of 2007, community coalition leaders and evaluation teams from seven major obesity prevention programs, including HEAC, came together for the first California
Convergence meeting. While a number of programs across the U.S. address the growing
obesity epidemic, California is unique in that there are more comprehensive, place-based
programs focused on changing nutrition and physical activity environments than anywhere
else in the country. Led and sponsored by The California Endowment and Kaiser Permanente, the California Convergence aims to promote learning and synergy across programs.
California Convergence brings together programs that, like HEAC:
- Take a policy change approach to improve nutrition and physical activity environments.
- Are place based.
- Work in multiple sectors of a community.
- Are multi-sited, working in more than one community.
- Have an program-wide evaluation.
The California Convergence was founded at a January 2007 conference, led and
sponsored by The California Endowment and Kaiser Permanente, with community
coalition leaders and evaluation teams from seven major, place-based obesity prevention
programs, including HEAC.
